Background and brief
Café Royal was newly renovated as an inviting urban retreat in the heart of the city, a place designed for pause, comfort, and everyday elegance. The brief set out to re-establish Café Royal as an all-day destination, welcoming guests from morning to evening and catering to a wide range of occasions, from breakfast and weekend brunches to a refined Afternoon Tea experience inspired by the timeless designs of Arne Jacobsen.
The space was envisioned as approachable yet sophisticated, combining classic café culture with contemporary hospitality. The interior and atmosphere needed to support a fluid daily rhythm, allowing guests to feel equally at ease stopping in for a quick coffee, lingering over brunch, or enjoying a relaxed afternoon gathering.
Our Solution
The renewed Café Royal offers a well-curated dining and bar experience that evolves naturally throughout the day. The restaurant features a carefully composed dinner menu, initially directed by chef Jeffrey Vella, focusing on elevated bistro cuisine and dry-aged meats. Smoky, grilled flavors take center stage, with dishes prepared in a Josper charcoal oven, bringing depth, warmth, and a subtle theatrical element to the culinary offering.
Complementing the food, the hotel bar presents a striking drinks menu with a selection of signature cocktails crafted for both casual enjoyment and social occasions. Designed as an ideal setting for after-work gatherings or informal meetings, the bar adds a lively yet polished dimension to the space.
